Membership
The call for nominations (to serve a two-year term) is distributed to College of Engineering staff in December. If interested, you are asked to reply to the call expressing why you would be a good fit for this role. The volunteer list will be reviewed by the school chairs, with recommendations forwarded to the dean, who will make the final selection. For those who are not selected, there are other opportunities to collaborate with COESCAC and your school’s leadership on the ongoing action planning initiatives.
We are seeking individuals who:
- Can commit to 2-3 hours a month on Council work, including but not limited to monthly meetings, touchpoints with School Chair, and all-staff events;
- Are interested in and passionate about moving the CoE staff experience and culture forward in a positive way and has ideas to further improve the staff experience;
- Are willing to be candid in expressing own opinions and respecting those of others;
- Are willing to serve as a representative of their unit to solicit input and communicate information downstream; and
- Demonstrate leadership by proactively communicating to other CoE staff and supporting new initiatives.
Culture Champion Award
People are Georgia Tech’s greatest assets. The culture in which we work helps bring out the best in our employees and promotes a sense of belonging. Culture can drive and enhance performance and growth. Culture is the behaviors, beliefs, assumptions, priorities, and experiences of the people in an environment. Great workplace culture doesn’t just happen; it must be actively and intentionally cultivated. A positive work culture:
- Builds trust
- Is team oriented and collaborative
- Allows for open and transparent communication
- Values and celebrates hard work and expertise
- Involves and empowers employees
- Gives staff “permission” to go the extra mile
- Recognizes the efforts and achievements of others
To highlight individuals in CoE who are striving to build a better culture in their School and in the College, the COESCAC created the “Culture Champion” award.
This award recognizes a staff member in each CoE school who advocates for a positive and productive culture and works to support and/or develop successful cultural practices—one who strives to make a difference. We want to know about them. Nomination packages can use the positive work culture descriptors above as a guide and provide examples where appropriate.
The call for nominations is distributed in September and requires:
- 1 signed nomination letter
- 1 signed letter of support
Any staff or faculty member may submit a nomination or letter of support for a staff member of their School. One winner per school will be selected and announced at Staff Engagement Day and, their name added to a wall plaque in their school.
